faithfully we've got a reason to go on

I’m probably going to get a lot of hate for writing this, but it’s my opinion and that’s all it is.

First off, let me just say that I think Jessica is extremely talented and has an amazing voice. I wish I could have half of her talent. But, here’s the thing… If she’s singing a Mariah song, she tries to sound like Mariah. If she’s singing a Whitney song, she tries to sound like Whitney. If she’s singing a Beyonce song, she tries to sound like Beyonce. Which is great and all but she doesn’t seem original to me, and each performance of hers seems to be so copycat to the original. She’s just sailing through the competition because of her talent to listen to how songs are sung and sing them exactly the same way.

Phillip may not be able to match her vocally, but he knows exactly who he is, and has never tried to imitate the original artist. Same with Joshua. Although I didn’t like his style of music all that much, one thing I really appreciated about him was his humility and the emotion that he made the audience feel with each and every song. Jessica’s performances lay flat with me. Almost as if she’s trying too hard. And I really wish they didn’t. If she connected to the songs, and made things her own, I’d probably be a huge fan of her. But the fact is that she doesn’t do those things. I really wish that it was a Joshua/Phillip finale. But now that it isn’t, may the best one win.
